  • Mission:
  • The American River Parkway is a protected and sustainable natural resource to all. The mission of the American River Parkway Foundation is to support the preservation, protection, enhancement, and appreciation of the American River Parkway by fostering environmental stewardship, facilitating volunteer opportunities, and funding and implementing critical Parkway projects and programs.

  • Overview:
  • The American River Parkway Foundation is currently in the process of renovating camp sites within our parkway: a 23 mile, 4,600 acre expanse of land, water, and nature spanning through Downtown Sacramento, Rancho Cordova, Fair Oaks, and Folsom. Our strong partnerships with local schools and community-based organizations focused on youth have allowed us the opportunity to build upon these spaces of land that we have available for camping and youth recreation.

  • History:
  • Camping is one of the most valuable experiences a child can have. It’s a learning experience that helps youth appreciate the outdoors and live together as a group. Campers along the American River Parkway have the recreational ability to hike, bike, swim, create handcrafted items, canoe, kayak, go tubing, play outdoor sports and much more. Our youth volunteer programs have been established to specifically provide youth the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors with their friends and family. In April of 2012 we paved the areas at 4 of the campsites, and made the existing amphitheater ADA accessible. In April of 2013, the ARPF received a lumber donation which allowed us to create picnic table and benches at the camp sites. Volunteers from the Sacramento-area Rotaries helped with the revitalization of the camp sites by removing invasive plants and painting, cleaning up vandalized areas.
