  • Mission:
  • To inspire forward movement in the lives of the diverse people of the community, by promoting a deeper understanding and respect for cultural differences and similarities; by empowering young people to realize their unlimited potential; and by protecting our seniors, and those with special needs, while improving their quality of life.

Adelante primarily serves the communities of Brentwood, Central Islip, Bay Shore and Hispanic Communities in Suffolk County, New York. In addition, Adelante also provides support and services to individuals across Long Island. The population we serve is composed of primarily low-income Hispanic individuals. However, Adelante provides services to several cultures in the multi-cultural community of Suffolk County

  • Overview:
  • Adelante of Suffolk County, Inc. is a 501© (3) non-profit, civic & Latino cultural, community-based, multi-service organization founded in 1966. Adelante is dedicated to improving the quality of life through programs targeting: mental health care, nutrition for the elderly, development of affordable housing, youth leadership development, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and computer education.

Last year, Adelante provided over 63,000 services to over 11,000 members of the community. Additionally, Adelante’s staff not only services the community, but also is also an integral part of our community; and many are graduates of our programs. Adelante is the only agency in Suffolk County that boasts greater than 95% bilingual staff, allowing us to provide culturally sensitive and linguistically competent services for our community.

Annually, Adelante has, in the past, hosted the largest and oldest Latino parade on Long Island to celebrate Latino culture and heritage. Over the last 15 years, the Adelante parade has funded and awarded $250,000 in scholarships to promising Latino youth.

  • History:
  • In 1966,a group of local Hispanic citizens realized a need for a stronger cultural presence. Adelante of Suffolk County, Inc., was born. What began as a social organization quickly grew into what Adelante has become today: an active provider of vital services to community seniors, youth and persons with special needs. Even after decades of dedication, our work has only just begun.
