  • Mission:
  • Catholic Charities mission to “provide service to those in need, to advocate for justice and to call upon others to do the same” has been the core of our work. Building upon this, we empower our clients to reach their full potential through accessible, effective and compassionate services.

  • Overview:
  • Catholic Charities has a long legacy of serving the most vulnerable in our society. We believe individuals and families of all faiths have worth and dignity and we are called to advocate for those who are in need, especially those who are living in poverty or who are marginalized in our society.

Our services are structured around these beliefs and our team of caring social workers, case managers, therapists and support staff help clients develop the skills necessary to be successful in whatever venture they choose.

We have seen parents learn the nurturing skills to provide a safer, more loving environment for their children. Unemployed workers suffering from depression develop coping skills that allow them to apply for jobs which can support their families. Refugees from war torn countries become self sufficient in a new culture on their way to citizenship, and wearied caregivers find assistance in their journey of caring for a parent suffering from severe dementia.

In 2012, we provided over 110,000 hours of services to people looking for help and hope. Many of these services are available at no charge or substantially reduced rates because of our mission to serve those most struggling to make ends meet. This is evidenced by looking at service statistics from 2010 to 2012 which demonstrate that 87% of our clients had annual incomes of under $12,000.

Some of our recent accomplishments include:

    - Being selected as a participant in Notre Dame & Catholic Charities USA's joint endeavor in the Lab for Economic Opportunities with our "Mentoring for Success" project. As a part of this national project, we have the opportunity to come together with other social service providers to research and implement scalable best practices across the social service sector at large and to identify innovative and effective anti-poverty programs.

    - Nearly 1,900 clients received Outreach Services at no cost, with 92% having family incomes of less than $25,000 per year - these services are designed to help people in or near crisis situations to meet basic needs, provide resources and advocacy that can help clients be on better financial footing to manage life's challenges.

    - Worked with 828 refugees to help them resettle in Southeastern Wisconsin, teaching them basic living skills, help them obtain housing and employment and learn English. 95% of the 245 newly arrived refugees last year were working with full time benefits within 90 days of coming to the United States.

    - Provided 1794 individuals with counseling services; 92% of the clients paying nothing for services - 95% of clients made significant progress toward treatment goals.

    - Presented free Deferred Action Status for Childhood Arrivals to over 3,000 Hispanic individuals and children and assisted over 600 of those individuals to begin the process of applying for legal status.

    - Coordinated the collection, processing and distribution of gifts to over 2,100 children and families during the Christmas season

    - 225 clients received In-Home Support Services in 2012, a 49% increase over 2011. With more and more people in need of this service and living on fixed incomes, our sliding fee scale ensures those that need help get help, no matter their income level.

Catholic Charities services include: Behavioral Health/Counseling, Outreach and Case Management, Pregnancy Support, Supportive Parenting, Adoption, Adult Day Services, In-Home Support Services, Refugee Resettlement Services and Legal Services for Immigrants.

  • History:
  • We have been reaching out to our community for nearly a century now. Our organization is dynamic. . . growing, adjusting and changing as the needs people struggle with have evolved over the decades.

Originally, our agency focused on adoption and child welfare services, however our services expanded in the 1960s to include family counseling and homemaker services for older and disabled adults. Over the next 40 years, our agency experienced a growth in development and collaboration for social service ministries with parishes in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Areas of need were identified and resulted in new programs such as Outreach to minority populations, Refugee Resettlement Services, Adult Day Services and more.

Today, we continue to respond to the changing needs within the communities of the ten counties of Southeastern Wisconsin. Our programs and services are available to anyone in need regardless of race, religion, country of origin or financial circumstances.
