  • Mission:
  • The Bristol Family Center exists to provide children twelve weeks to six years with opportunities to fulfill their individual potential physically, socially/emotionally and academically. The Bristol Family Center staff is dedicated to honoring and respecting children and families by getting to know them well, and by helping children to love themselves through loving each of them unconditionally. Social and emotional development is of utmost concern at the BFC. Teachers encourage the children in their care by being affectionate and affirming. We foster each child’s individuality and support their curiosity by allowing them to discover and pursue their own interests in a rich and stimulating environment.

  • Overview:
  • The Bristol Family Center is a non-profit early care and education program established in 1990 to help meet the growing need for high quality childcare. It is licensed by the State of Vermont Department of Children and Families’ Child Development Division and is fully insured. The Bristol Family Center is accredited by the Step Ahead for Recognition System (STARS) as a 4 star program. This is a state accreditation that recognizes early education centers which adhere to strict standards of excellence. The Center is governed by a Board of Directors, which consists of five parents and/or community members whose focus is on providing long-term strategic leadership to the Center. In addition to the Director and Program Director, there is a staff of experienced teachers, all of whom, at the very minimum, meet state requirements. The Bristol Family Center Staff is inspired by the practice of Reggio Emilia. The Reggio Emilia practice values young children and the relationships that young children build with peers, adults, materials and nature. Through this inspiration we offer premium environments in which children can explore and learn. We share in the philosophy that children are capable of constructing their own learning and therefore offer many opportunities for children to be thoughtful and curious learners while building meaningful relationships. BFC focuses on open ended materials (children create the outcome) as well as natural materials that children would see within their everyday world. Through this curriculum we provide children the opportunity to develop the social and emotional skills that will support them in future academic development.

  • History:
  • The Bristol Family Center began in 1991 as a preschool located directly in town. In 2001 Bristol Family Center moved to a location just outside of town. This move allowed BFC to expand the program and begin offering early care and education to infants and toddlers as well as continuing to offer a preschool setting for the local children. Since the move in 2001 BFC has continued to grow as the only center setting in the five town area. Over the last seven years BFC has begun using a Reggio inspired curriculum that focuses on allowing children to be the curious learners that they are. Presently we offer care to children ages twelve weeks through kindergarten. As well as focusing on and offering the many supports and resources that the family unit as a whole are showing they need. We work closely with DCF offering care to children who need placement quickly. We also offer services to children with developmental delays as well as behavioral issues. Bristol Family Center prides itself in helping children and families develop the social and emotional skills to be successful community members.
