  • Mission:
  • The Community Crisis Center provides Safety, Hope, Advocacy, Respite and Education for those impacted by crisis and violence in the Fox Valley Region and Illinois. We strive each day to provide safety and basic human needs to those who are experiencing the trauma of domestic violence, sexual assault, homelessness and other life crises. Anyone coming to our door requesting emergency assistance receives individual attention and access to our services.

  • History:
  • The Community Crisis Center was founded in 1975, Elgin, Illinois by a group of volunteers who wanted to create a place that would be "always home" for individuals and families in crisis, whether that crisis be family violence, financial need, or emotional anguish. Over the years, professional services have expanded in response to client needs. Available services include: a 24 hour crisis hotline; emergency shelter with meals for victims of domestic violence and homeless women and children; individual and group counseling; medical or legal advocacy; longer-term transitional housing for eligible women leaving shelter; financial assistance for eligible applicants; including rental assistance and referrals; emergency food vouchers and assistance in securing employment; medical, legal and social service information and referral as needed by each individual client.

On July 5, 2010, The Community Crisis Center celebrated its 35th Anniversary—35 years of service available 24/7 to victims of domestic violence, survivors of sexual assault, and individuals/families in crisis. Despite the impact of a troubled economy, we have kept the doors open by implementing staff layoffs, salary cutbacks, and unpaid furloughs; freezing travel, equipment, and supply expenses; and increasing fundraising efforts.

January, 2012 the Community Crisis Center continues to address the goal of providing safety for all and decreasing the amount of family violence within our community. After providing emergency shelter and safety for individuals and families in crisis, we educate, provide resources, support, and empower individuals to make decisions and changes in their lives to become self-sufficient. Volunteers and partners in the community continue to donate their time and talent in support of the Center’s 24/7 availability, responding to thousands of people each year
