  • Overview:
  • California Young World is an early education program with 3 operating locations serving the Sunnyvale area. At California Young World, our chief concern is with the quality care and well-being of all children. We provide a friendly place where your children learn skills that can help them achieve success throughout their school years. Our population is predominantly low income.

  • History:
  • California Young World has been a private non-profit corporation since 1964. It was originally formed in I955 as a for-profit corporation to provide dance instruction and pre-school at several small sites in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. At one time, there were 9 different sites. In 1964, CYW started all-day child-care and development programs continuing with the pre-school and dance programs. In 1984, those programs were consolidated into one campus at the Fairwood School and the dance program was discontinued. In 1994, before and after school programs were begun at the Ellis and Lakewood Schools. In 1995, that program was begun at the San Miguel School. In July 1997, the Sunnyvale School District took over the Fairwood School to use as an elementary school.
CYW has contracts with the Child Development Division of the California Department of Education to provide child-care and development services for low income eligible families. Approximately 40 per cent of our families are certified as eligible for this program. An additional 5 percent are subsidized by other agencies. The remainders are full fee paying families.
California Young World is licensed by the California Department of Social Services to provide the following programs:
An infant/toddler program for 36 children ages 6 weeks to 24 months at Fairwood.
A pre-school program for 104 children ages 2 years to 5 years at Fairwood.
A preschool program for 24 three to five year olds and 28 school age children at San Miguel.
School age programs for 56 children at Ellis and Fairwood.
All sites are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. NAEYC is the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals and is recognized as the gold standard for quality programming.
