  • Mission:
  • The mission of the Box Elder Community Pantry is to provide food relief to struggling residents of Box Elder County through times of emergency or low-income without discrimination regarding age, gender, race, religion, or marital status. We believe that everyone who comes to our Pantry is our customer, and is entitled to be treated with respect and dignity. Through this service, we will contribute to a stronger community, healthier families, and more productive, stable individuals.

  • Overview:
  • The Box Elder Community Pantry provides food assistance to residents of Box Elder County suffering from food insecurity. We are open 5 days a week and serve an average of 1,147 clients every month. In 2013, we distributed 702, 556 pounds of food to 5,731 children and 8,042 adults*, and 380,649 pounds of food to 12 other non-profit organizations in Box Elder and Weber Counties.

*Clients are allowed to visit once every thirty days. These numbers reflect the overall total served for the year, however, many clients visit us multiple times per year.

  • History:
  • The Box Elder Community Pantry first started in 1960, and was originally run by a group of women affiliated with Church Women United. When these women began what is now the Pantry, they started in a closet of the County Courthouse. At this time, the food for the Pantry was supplied by the welfare department and other government programs. As the needs of Box Elder County grew, this group of women recognized that a more permanent food pantry was needed. In 1969, these women enlisted the community to help stock food to distribute, and the Box Elder Community Pantry was born. At this time, we also moved into a more permanent location. In 1979, we became an official non-profit partner of United Way of Northern Utah, and received our IRS 501(c)(3) status in 1991. In 1999, we moved into our current building, and have expanded and developed it into the over 5,000 square foot facility we have today.
