  • Mission:
  • Founded in 1907 and rooted in our faith traditions of charity and justice, Catholic Charities CYO supports families, aging and disabled adults, and youth through social services and opportunities for healthy growth and development. Originally founded to care for the orphans of the San Francisco earthquake, CCCYO has been a leader in providing human services to the Bay Area for over 100 years.

  • Overview:
  • Catholic Charities CYO will serve over 35,000 Bay Area residents in need through our 30 programs in San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin counties this year, including: supportive housing for homeless families and individuals living with disabling HIV/AIDS, child development centers, after-school activity programs, CYO Athletics and Camp, behavioral health services, immigrant and refugee services, homelessness prevention programs, youth residential programs, geriatric care management, and adult day care services. Catholic Charities CYO provides these services to our community’s poor and working poor families, aging and disabled adults, and youth, regardless of race, creed, religion, sexual orientation, or national origin.

  • History:
  • Founded in 1907 to care for the orphans of the San Francisco earthquake, Catholic Charities CYO has been a leader in providing human services to the Bay Area for over 100 years. Today, we operate more than 30 programs throughout San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo Counties. These programs change the lives of children, families in crisis, single parents, the homeless, the elderly and disabled, those living with HIV/AIDS, and refugees and immigrants.
Catholic Charities CYO is continually being recognized as a leader in Bay Area Social Service Providers and has been providing youth development services for over 25 years. We have been highly successful in achieving youth related outcomes through our long established relationships with both DCYF and MOCI in San Francisco, who currently work with us through Maureen and Craig Sullivan Youth Services at 10th and Mission. We also operate a child development center on Treasure Island and were chosen to participate in a state-wide Residentially Based Services (RBS) pilot project designed to help children and their families upon exiting residential care at our St. Vincent’s School for Boys program. Our agency provided 234,553 hours of child development and out of school programing to 336 low-income children in San Rafael’s Canal District and San Francisco’s South of Market and Treasure Island neighborhoods last year.
In 1999 Catholic Charities CYO began operating Kids Club, which was an initiative of the City of San Rafael to help reduce violence within the Canal community. What was originally a summer drop-in program for children of working families quickly grew into a program offering year-round enrichment activities as well as homework help. Since that time, we have continued to grow into the Canal Family Support Program, enlisting local volunteers and community groups to offer high quality programming that enriches the lives of Canal District youth and enables them to become productive, self-sufficient members of society.
