General

  • Mission:
  • BCA’s mission is to carry the voices of people affected by breast cancer to inspire and compel the changes necessary to end the epidemic. Through education, direct support, collaboration, community-based organizing, and public policy and media advocacy, BCA has changed and continues to change the conversation about breast cancer.

  • History:
  • BCA was founded in 1990 because a group of Bay Area women were frustrated with the lack of information about this disease, a sentiment tragically shared by many of the people who contact us today. Our founders - only one of whom is still alive - knew that their private medical crisis was part of a larger public health emergency, and that the experiences of those dealing with breast cancer needed to be heard to address the crisis.

Today, BCA is a nationally recognized leader in the breast cancer movement. We partner with women's health and environmental organizations to bring about important policy changes on both the state and federal level as well as provide crucial education, information and analysis to those affected by breast cancer about treatments, research and the underlying causes of breast cancer.
