  • Mission:
  • The mission of Camp Endeavor is to provide elementary school aged students with a hands-on, holistic, educational experience with a strong focus on integrating science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) with the literacy and the arts. The organization will provide students with opportunities to participate in field learning experiences, allowing them an interactive framework to “touch, see, and think” about the world around them. Students will participate in hand-on activities that will encourage them to explore STEM through art and nature. Students will express themselves through dance, music, and visual arts, empowering them to explore art as a science and gain an enthusiasm for STEM that will contribute to their learning environment.

  • Overview:
  • In the underserved community in Philadelphia giving children the opportunity to learn instead of sit at home or just free play for eight to ten weeks is a phenomenal achievement and a more pressing need. If you look at the world everything is changing and there are so many new things to learn, education naturally would have to take the same course. Ten months is no longer enough time to give the vast amount of information this world has to offer. Our belief is that is why curriculum are taking so many things out and making a priority list of what is most important to learn. With this science in the urban/ underprivileged educational system has been put so far on the back burner because the state required test has put so much emphasis on other areas. One of the biggest areas underserved educational communities suffer from is the summer slide. Teachers have to use about one month of teaching time to bring children back to the level of learning they reached during the end of the previous year. Over 30 years of research supports the assertion that academic inactivity during the summer break from school diminishes the academic progress of low-income students and contributes to the achievement gap that exists between these students and their more affluent counterparts. “ We intend to eliminate the summer slide by continuing educating in the school in a summer camp format and keeping maximum consistency, that children of the urban population so desperately need.
Our program has several objectives and goals they are as follows.
    • Push back the summer slide through pullout tutoring sessions with each student and constant reinforcement of STEM education and reading initiatives.
    • Create opportunities for improvement in basic reading, writing and comprehension skills through project based learning, experiments and dramatic reenactments.
    • Create opportunities for improvement in math using music instruction.
    • Improvement in fundamental cognitive skills through individualized art projects.
    • Improvement in social behavior through the teaching of self-control, self-efficacy, attendance and ownership of learning required in our social/ emotional curriculum.
    • Improvement in school environment for everyone by keeping sound structure, stability and promoting the host schools integrity, quality and character.
