  • Mission:
  • To improve the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities and their families of Woodford County and the surrounding areas.

  • Overview:
  • The Association for the Developmentally Disabled of Woodford County or AddWC, is a small, non-profit agency providing quality person-centered, individualized services for adults with developmental disabilities. We offer community living options, home-based support services, vocational and life-skills programs, supported employment and advocacy for residents in Central Illinois.

  • History:
  • AddWC was initially founded in 1955 by parents of school aged children looking for better services through the school district. We maintain a close working relationship with our school district., by offering vocational training to students of high school age. Many of the students remain in our programs after aging out of school.

We have been a member of the National Association for Retarded Citizens, which is now more appropriately called the ARC. In 1961 a newly formed program was founded with the express purpose of providing worthwhile work and activities for older cognitively challenged adults. The vocational training and employment components that were founded through a newspaper recycling program, which has expanded and continues in operation today.

Our building was donated to AddWC by Woodford County. We are required to pay $10 per year rent in addition to all utilities and maintenance on the building.

AddWC is the recycling coordinator for Woodford County. A crew composed of vocational skills training participants and AddWC staff, operates routes to various businesses within Woodford County. These routes run daily, collecting materials that can be processed at our facility. We also have drop off trailers in five locations across the county. Almost every town within the county participates in our recycling program.

The participants that work in the recycling program are paid for their work.
