  • Mission:
  • The BRYCE Project strives to foster acts of kindness, embraces diversity through serving, and creates friendships while celebrating individuality. We are committed to building and mentoring youth to a deeper level of understanding the importance of “giving back”. BRYCE stresses and enforces the importance of family, education and positive values as being bridge builders to the communities we live in and serve.

  • Overview:
  • The BRYCE Project is an enrichment program designed to engage youth in activities that develop their social-emotional skills. The BRYCE Project gives youth the opportunity to get to know and support each other. Youth learn the values of community and giving back by doing random acts of kindness as individuals and in groups. We encourage friendship, diversity, individuality, and family.  Youth are heartened to discuss the challenges they encounter while making healthy decisions. In addition, this program will plant the seed at an early age the importance of education.

Our young ladies learn about self-esteem, hygiene, etiquette, and a host of other topics. Community service projects are embedded in the program, thus helping girls understand the importance of giving back. Enrichment opportunities such as trips and other formal events take place monthly. Sessions focus on a specific topics such as: Communication, Leadership, Critical thinking, Assertiveness and refusal skills, Healthy decision making, Family Matters and Paths to the Future.

  • History:
  • The BRYCE Project was established in April 2012 and is located in
Alexandria, VA. The foundation of the Bright Resilient Youth
Committed to Enrichment (BRYCE) Project lies in the hands of my
younger sisters, nieces, nephews and son Brycen. The project title
represents all the hopes and dreams I have for my son, family and
children in the community. I've spent years encouraging children to
be better, to do their best and to support one another.

In 2008, I was diagnosed for the second time a rare form of cancer.
After having my first extensive round of chemotherapy I began to lose
my hair. In a panic, I visited an older sister who helped me prepare
and embrace this loss. As we washed the remainder of my hair away,
there came the most encouraging words from then an 10 year old, "Wow
Auntie Von, you look beautiful". I 've held on to those words to this
very day. They've touched me in more ways than one and helped me
realize, you're never too young to lend a hand or to encourage

My extracurricular activities revolve around them. I didn't realize
my passion/gift until I received a package in the mail. Enclosed in
this package was a note from my younger sister a Norfolk State
Graduate thanking me for being her "rock" and the reason for her being
the amazing woman she is today. Her admiration inspired me to found
and move forward with this project. The structure of this program
reflects my childhood and reminds me of how I committed myself to
then, my "baby sister". I truly believe in "reach one teach one",
making a difference in the community, creating pathways to success and
    brighter futures for our children.
