  • Mission:
  • We are a nonprofit organization whose mission is to accelerate the transition to renewable energy and a modern grid through technical, policy, and project development expertise.

We drive policy innovation to remove barriers to procurement, interconnection, and realizing the full potential of integrated distributed energy resources, such as distributed generation, advanced inverters, demand response, and energy storage. We work with utilities to develop community microgrid projects that demonstrate that local renewables can provide at least 25% of the total electric energy consumed within the distribution grid, while improving grid reliability. We are active in numerous proceedings before state and Federal agencies throughout the United States.

  • Overview:
  • The Clean Coalition is a nonprofit working to accelerate America’s transition away from an outdated energy system built around large, centralized, fossil-fueled power plants and miles of inefficient transmission lines; and toward a modern energy system where smaller-scale, efficient, renewable energy projects deliver affordable and reliable power to communities.

Transitioning to clean local energy generation drives innovation and economic development. And it empowers communities to turn underused space — such as rooftops and abandoned industrial sites — into cost-effective renewable energy resources.

  • History:
  • The Clean Coalition started as the FIT Coalition in early 2009. We re-launched as the Clean Coalition in 2011.

Since our founding, we have worked to design, promote, and implement clean energy programs and policies. The Clean Coalition works with leaders from communities, utilities, businesses, and governments to advance local, renewable energy. We are active on the local, state, and national levels.

Already, the Clean Coalition has provided policy support to utilities across the country, and so far we have helped bring nearly 3 gigawatts of clean local energy online — enough to provide peak power to about 1 million homes.
