  • Mission:
  • Our mission is to help families with a cancer kid. Helping families in crisis
We have asked parents of cancer and critically ill kids this question, “What kinds of things would you like to see us (Adonai) do for your family?” Here are some of the responses we received:
•“We love the Halloween party and look forward to it each year.” One year a family’s son slept with the Halloween invitation under his pillow until the party.
•“We would love to have more activities for our family. Anything that our family can attend that is no cost to us is much appreciated. Our budgets are stretched to the max as it is and we cannot afford to pay for these types of things on our own.”
•“You provide a place where we can attend as a family. Because of the Doctor’s visits and treatments, we don’t get to be a whole family unit as much as we want to. The events you provide allow us to do that, be a normal family.”

  • Overview:
  • The ADONAI Organization is a non-profit Christian organization that strives to help families that have a child with cancer or other life-threatening disease. Our mission is to provide temporary help to these families in our local communities. We are different than most non-profit organizations; all of our families come to us on a referral basis only by; doctors, hospitals, schools, and other organizations. The majority of these families do not get assistance because they
refuse not to work. Even though there is a working parent in the household, these families cannot meet some very basic needs, such as clothing and food.

We also assist single parent households with a cancer child and families that have a parent with cancer and have minor children in their home. “ADONAI” Is staffed completely by caring volunteers and currently has no paid staff. Due to these wonderful people who have a vision for helping those in our local communities, all donations of money, food, toys, etc. goes to helping these families.

When a family has a terminally ill child, that family finds that due to doctor visits and the need to be with their child as much as possible, they need assistance. Or, When a parent with minor kids is diagnosed with cancer and cannot work, this family copes with a lower income along with the stress of helping that member stay positive and encouraged on a day-to-day basis. By providing food, clothes, household supplies, and special events we alleviate a little of the burden that these families endure.

    Nonprofit Effectiveness
Volunteerism is a huge part of the Adonai organization, we wouldn’t exist without dedicated volunteers. Currently we have approximately 400 volunteers in our database. Many of our volunteers are UPS employees, which we love.
Leadership is also vital to Adonai. Each event takes the skills of many people to make that event successful. We train people in an abundance of areas at each event. All people who are leaders of an area will oversee 25-50 volunteers. Extremely important that we have and train leaders.

    Encouraging Diversity
Physical ability We help families who are going through huge stresses in life. When a child loses their hair due to treatments such as chemo and radiation, looks become extremely important to them. Because our focus is on helping families with like situations this one issue for the child is less of a burden to them. No one stares at them or makes a big deal of it. This is huge for our families. Also due to extreme treatments some kids cannot walk without the help of a wheelchair, again a non-issue for the child or the volunteers. Everyone is just focused on the party at hand and cancer takes a backseat in their lives even if it’s just for 1 day.

Race and Gender are not a factor to us in anyway. Cancer and disease play no favorites in race, gender, or age. Some of our families have children very young, 6 months old fighting this dreaded disease.

  • History:
  • We were incorporated in 1989. But my family was involved in helping families for 6 years prior to that. It was at the nudging of a friend who said "you should incorporate so that businesses/people can have the advantage of a tax write-off". That was the reason we incorporated. Because we help specific families who have a cancer child and the family needs to be referred to us, I honestly didn't think people would care to help us. I was wrong, happy to say.
