  • Mission:
  • The mission of Asante Africa Foundation is to educate and empower the next generation of change agents whose dreams and actions transform the future for Africa and the world.

We believe in the power of knowledge as a catalyst to help young people create a future where they can live their potential. We know that enriched minds collectively create better solutions to whatever challenges their communities face. Children who stay in school earn higher wages and tend to have smaller families that are vaccinated, well nourished and educated. They gain the skills to start community businesses, find their voice and choose peaceful paths to positive change.

  • Overview:
  • Children living in extreme rural poverty trail their urban counterparts in access to education and the privilege to seek improved life opportunities. Asante Africa Foundation’s programs provide sustainable solutions that help disadvantaged children gain a solid education. Our comprehensive approach targets the root causes of why children are not attending school or are underachieving when they are in school. Our success and continued growth is due to our reliance on local knowledge and expertise to develop solutions that are viable and sustainable in the communities and cultures where we work. We invest our resources locally, in the countries where we work. This helps boost local economies and keeps costs low.

At the core, our programs target: access to education, accelerated and quality classroom learning, and skills for life beyond the classroom. Our Girls’ Advancement Program addresses access to education by providing rural girls with puberty, health, and financial literacy education, emboldening them to attend and remain in school. The collaborative Integrative Teacher Training Program accelerates learning in the classroom by engaging teachers in active teaching practice and augmenting traditionally scarce professional development opportunities. Finally, our Leadership and Entrepreneurship Incubator (LEI) program is rooted in a trademarked curriculum that develops personal leadership, job readiness, and entrepreneurship in rural East African youth. This ensures that youth are prepared for and can find career and business success in life beyond the classroom.

  • History:
  • Asante Africa Foundation was established in 2007 by Erna Grasz, a former Silicon Valley executive and tech-savvy electrical engineer, along with East Africa visionaries, Emmy Moshi and Hellen Nkuraiya. Since then, the organization has leveraged Erna’s corporate leadership background and assiduous business practices to envision and enact a multi-pronged charge on youth, education and leadership development. What began as a two-village project, led by three women with a passion for youth and education, has expanded to over 100 school partnerships with over 80 communities impacting an estimated 200,000 youth in Kenya and Tanzania. Our success and continued growth is due to our reliance on local knowledge and expertise to develop solutions that are viable and sustainable in the communities and cultures where we work.
