General

  • Mission:
  • Our mission is to end pediatric cancer. Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation that was created to support kids with cancer, right here in Arizona. Through a specialized research partnership with the Ronald A. Matricaria Institute of Molecular Medicine at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children supports cutting edge pediatric cancer research with the hope that one day we can put an end to this devastating disease.

In addition to funding research, our unique Travel Assistance Program enables us to help families who need to travel for treatment.

  • Overview:
  • Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children is committed to children with cancer and their families, right here in Arizona. With your support we are able to bring life saving cancer treatments to children in the Valley and also assist, when necessary, with out of state travel expenses.

    Research With a Purpose
Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children is proud to partner with the Ronald A. Matricaria Institute of Molecular Medicine at Phoenix Children’s Hospital; one of the few institutions in the world focused solely on pediatric molecular medicine. Molecular, or personalized medicine uses genetic information to determine the right treatment, for the right patient at the right time. By studying a patient’s genetic makeup, researchers can identify their susceptibility to disease, predict their response to a particular drug and match the patient with a personalized therapy. In other words, personalized medicine allows doctors to cure more children of cancer in ways that are more effective and less harmful.

    Travel Assistance Program
Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children believes that all children with cancer deserve the best care. In certain circumstances it may be necessary for children and their families to travel in state or out of state for treatment. Our unique Travel Assistance Program is designed to help children with cancer and their families navigate the expense of medical travel for treatment including airfare, ground transportation, lodging, food, etc. The cancer child is also provided with a backpack of comfort items and toys.

  • History:
  • “Your child has cancer.” Nothing can prepare you for these devastating words.

At only 18 months old my daughter, Ava, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, an aggressive form of pediatric cancer, at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. For over 3.5 years we traveled across the United States seeking the best care.

During that time, Ava endured more toxic treatments than most adult cancer patients. Due to the extreme nature of her treatments, her teeth slowly disintegrated, her hair was gone and eventually her kidneys failed.

In her final days we watched as her fragile body shut down. She looked at me and said, “Mommy I don’t want to feel like this anymore.” She died two days later.

At the age of 5, cancer took Ava from our family, friends and loved ones.

When I lost Ava, I didn’t give up hope. I knew my story wasn’t unique; all cancer families face the same struggles. That’s what inspired me to create hope by funding research that will bring new life-saving treatments to children and assist families with unforeseen travel expenses.

With your help, we can make a difference and save lives.
