  • Mission:
  • The Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) exists to Make Military Life Easier for our junior enlisted military and their families. These young heroes and their families are voluntarily serving and sacrificing daily so we can continue to enjoy our freedoms and way of life. The junior troops don't get paid very much and can barely afford the basics for their families. With shrinking defense budgets, troop and family programs are being cut at every military installation. The ASYMCA, in close coordination with military leaders, attempts to fill the highest priority gaps in these required programs and services. Our junior military troops and families deserve all the help we can possibly provide with low and no cost programs.

  • Overview:
  • Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) programs aim to bring families closer together while at home and especially during deployment. Healthy families contribute substantially to the success of service members and the entire military, providing confidence and peace of mind. Few people outside of military families can imagine the strain of worrying about a service husband or wife, especially one who is deployed. A vast array of ASYMCA programs help spouses of junior-enlisted learn life skills, care for children and even make ends meet. The children of deployed parents are the ones who suffer most; confusion, loneliness and depression are common. ASYMCA programs educate, entertain, stimulate and comfort young minds, helping them understand and cope with the absence of their parent.
Impacting over 500,000 troops and family members annually, the ASYMCA offers low and no cost programs through 200 services centers at 34 branch and affiliate locations serving 45 of the largest military installations nationwide. The breadth of the programs offered at each branch is based upon the military population surrounding a specific branch. Examples of some local level programs are: Crisis Counseling, Food for Families, Family Unity, Child Literacy, Before & After School Tutoring and Summer Camp

  • History:
  • YMCA service in the military setting can be traced back to 1861 when dedicated YMCA members voluntarily provided humanitarian services to both Confederate and Union troops and casualties. Since the Civil War, the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) has provided support to our Nation’s military service members and their families through every military action. Today, the ASYMCA with its long and effective background of service to the military continues to offer effective and meaningful programs and services to young military people. Through a network of more than 200 program centers at 34 branch and affiliate locations the Armed Services YMCA impacts over 500,000 troops and family members annually.
