  • Mission:
  • The mission of the Colorado Lions KidSight Program is to provide early detection and facilitate treatment of vision impairments in Colorado's young children through vision screening and public education.

  • Overview:
  • KidSight Colorado provides free eye screening to children six months to six years of age in Colorado and information about the importance of vision screening to parents and local communities. The program also provides resources and referrals to parents of children who do not pass the KidSight Colorado vision screening. This program addresses a critical need, identifying vision problems in children and educating the community about the importance of good vision as it relates to a child’s development and education. More than 280,000 children in Colorado have had their vision screened through the KidSight Colorado program and more than 31,000 children were referred for follow up care.

    Our goals are:
    • To ensure that children entering primary school have received a screening that can detect potential vision problems that can affect learning
    • To screen children ages six months through six years to check for undetected problems that could develop into amblyopia (lazy eye) or other serious eye conditions which can cause blindness if not treated at an early age
    • To educate parents and the community regarding vision problems in young children and the importance of vision screening

  • History:
  • In 2001 the Lions Clubs of Colorado founded the Colorado Lions KidSight Program (KidSight Colorado). The program originally operated under the auspices of the Colorado Lions Foundation and then the Rocky Mountain Lions Eye Bank. KidSight Colorado became a separate 501(c)(3) organization on January 1, 2012.
