General

  • Mission:

  • Committed to the belief that every human life is valuable, the mission of Angels’ Place, Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, is to provide single parents who are low-income, full-time students with the help needed to complete their education, so that they may secure satisfying employment, establish careers and become self-sufficient citizens.Through no-pay child care and family support programs that embody the best practices of education, family and child development, Angels’ Place provides a loving, nurturing, safe and healthy environment that every parent and child deserves.

  • Overview:
  • Founded in August of 1985, Angels’ Place, Inc., provides the highest quality early childhood education to families least able to afford it. By providing early education for their 0- to 5-year-old children, social work services, and other related family services we encourage single parents whose annual incomes are no more than 125% of federal poverty guidelines and who are full-time students to finish school and undertake careers that will sustain their families.

  • History:
  • Angels’ Place was founded 30 years ago in Pittsburgh, in Brookline. For hundreds of enrollees, it has provided a practical, progressive, compassionate approach to family challenges associated with single parenting, poverty, and meeting educational goals. In 1989 Angels' Place opened a second comprehensive support center in Swissvale. The 1998 opening of a third center on Pittsburgh’s North Side was made possible by an outpouring of community support for a capital campaign and a Kresge Foundation challenge grant. These are the three facilities owned by Angels’ Place. Their combined capacity is 75 children. All participate in Pennsylvania's Keystone STARS program and all are licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. Our founder Mary Winter is still active in the organization and works as our nutritonal coordinator at our Brookline site.
