General

  • Mission:
  • The Volunteer Center For Anne Arundel County, Inc. [dba Anne Arundel County Volunteer Center] (Volunteer Center) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which was founded in 2000. Our mission is: to inspire and coordinate volunteers, engage and support nonprofits and build coalitions with businesses, strengthening Anne Arundel County, Maryland and improving lives in our community.

  • Overview:
  • The Volunteer Center publicizes hundreds of opportunities to volunteer each month. Volunteers serve individually or with their friends, families or co-workers at community service agencies throughout Anne Arundel County, Maryland. We are committed to empowering individuals to realize their personal capacity to contribute to the community in meaningful ways. By providing access to a variety of volunteer opportunities, the Volunteer Center is continuously enhancing the options for volunteers to serve.

By our very nature, the Volunteer Center is a collaborative organization and we rely on partnerships throughout the community to engage volunteers. For instance, we partner with many organizations for Days of Service. National Volunteer Week and Youth Service Day partners have included local high schools, the Annapolis Regional Church, the Aktion Club (for members with developmental disabilities) and the U.S. Naval Academy Midshipmen Action Group. Our MLK Day of Service partners have included the Church on the Rock, Bello Machre, Creating Communities, Operation Welcome Home – Maryland, Watershed Stewards, Arundel House of Hope, Assistance League, Volunteer Maryland, and the Anne Arundel Conflict Resolution Center.

  • History:
  • The Volunteer Center was founded in 2000 and is the sole countywide resource to connect prospective volunteers with opportunities to meet local community needs. Committed to supporting volunteerism and civic participation, we provide information, consultation and referral to individuals and groups including schools, businesses, organizations and faith communities. With funding, we will expand the ability of our community organization partners to further their missions by using untapped resources of volunteer talent and time.

Annually, the Volunteer Center helps more than 4,000 individuals, families, corporate and community groups find volunteer opportunities at 370+ community organizations. Volunteers of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds are mobilized to feed the homeless, serve seniors, protect the environment, mentor youth and change our community for the better. These volunteers create more than $2 Million of value added to our community in volunteer time per year.

The capacity of community organizations to respond to serious challenges during tough times can be increased by using more volunteers. Because we build capacity for so many nonprofits, supporting the Volunteer Center is a way to strengthen the safety net for the entire community.
