  • Mission:
  • At Children's Trust, we strive to prevent child abuse and neglect and provide continuous support for children through investigation and court proceedings. We help to make kids safer and adults better parents through education.

  • Overview:
  • Children’s Trust is a 501 (c) 3 organization focused on reducing the trauma of child abuse through education and advocacy. Children’s Trust strives to prevent child abuse and neglect and provide continuous support for children through investigation and court proceedings. We help to make kids safer and adults better parents through education. Children’s Trust provides three important programs to provide this support to our children: Children First Child Abuse Prevention Program focuses on educating children in kindergarten through 5th grade on how to Speak Up Be Safe® (SUBS) and educating adults through our Stewards of Children® (SOC) curricula. SOC is an evidence based program teaching adults what child sexual abuse looks like, while also changing our behaviors to protect our community's children safe. The Children’s Advocacy Center, accredited through the National Children’s Alliance, provides services to children who are victims of alleged abuse. Working with Multi-Disciplinary Teams in the Cities of Roanoke and Salem and the County of Roanoke Virginia, we ensure that child abuse investigations and subsequent prosecutions are coordinated among agencies and that they remain focused on the needs of the child. On site, we provide forensic interviews and assist with needed services to children and non-offending caregivers dealing with the trauma of child abuse. We also provide these services through our satellite location serving the New River Valley which includes the counties of Montgomery, Floyd, Pulaski and the city of Radford Virginia. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is our third program. We recruit, train, and supervise volunteer advocates to provide a voice for children of neglect and abuse. We provide CASA services in the cities of Roanoke and Salem and the counties of Roanoke and Craig.

  • History:
  • Children’s Trust Roanoke Valley was formed as the result of a joint commitment from the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) to better serve children and families in the Roanoke Valley.
Children’s Trust combines needed public education outreach, effective advocacy, and a strong network of support for Roanoke children and families and is dedicated to coordinating services that will improve the community by promoting awareness about child abuse, providing family support through education, providing a child-friendly environment for the investigation of abuse, and advocating for the best interests of abused and neglected children.
Over the years, CAC and CASA have dedicated years of service to preventing abuse against Roanoke’s children and advocating on the behalf of those who have been mistreated.
In 1977 the Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect was formed. In 1988 the agency became “Child Abuse Prevention Council of Roanoke Valley”. In 2002 the agency adopted the name of “Children’s Advocacy Center of the Roanoke Valley”. In 2008 the “Children’s Advocacy Center of the Roanoke Valley” merged with the “Roanoke Valley CASA Foundation” – they emerged as one unified agency – Children’s Trust. In 2013, Children's Trust was asked to take their success of managing a successful advocacy center to the New River Valley and assume the management of the New River Valley Children's Advocacy Center. The New River Valley Children's Advocacy Center was created by Radford University in response to the need of the children in the New River Valley.
