General

  • Mission:
  • The Boys & Girls Club of Lenawee serves with a Mission to " enable all children, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens."

  • Overview:
  • The Club is open to all youth, ages 6-18, with a special concern for the most vulnerable youth in our community. We are an after-school program open Monday through Friday between the critical hours of 3:00p.m-8:00p.m. and 9:30a.m-5:30p.m. during school breaks. Club hours are when most children are unsupervised and when juvenile crime is likely to occur, including crimes committed against children.
Youth benefit from trained, caring professional staff and volunteers who help young people take control of their lives, and envision productive futures. Our 1,192 members come to us with challenges rooted in negative peer pressure, difficult home lives and a host of personal and social issues. The Club addresses key developmental goals and issues of disadvantage by offering daily access to a broad range of programs in five core areas: Character and Leadership Development; Education and Career Development; Health and Life Skills; The Arts; Sports, Fitness and Recreation. The continuum of services at the Club cultivates motivation, goal achievement, and resilience.

  • History:
  • In 1995, a youth died from a shooting incident on the East Side of Adrian, Michigan. From that tragedy was born the East Side CommUNITY Coalition (ESCC), a grassroots organization that sought to protect children. ESCC members wanted to create a center that would provide safe and constructive after-school programming for youth. The programming offered by Boys & Girls Clubs of America was determined to be the perfect match. For more than 140 years, Boys & Girls Clubs have provided a safe, positive constructive place for youth. With strong community support, the Boys & Girls Club of Lenawee (BGCL) opened its doors in Adrian in January 2001. Our Hudson Extension opened in 2005, serving Hudson area youth in grades 6-12 during the academic year.
