General

  • Mission:
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Waterloo Region (BBBSWR) is a community organization committed to helping children and youth live their potential. We foster and facilitate high quality and safe mentoring programs for children in need. BBBSWR provides mentoring programs to children, ages 6 to 16, who face cultural and socioeconomic marginalization in the areas of academics, relationship skills, social skills and life skills. All of our programs are child centered and offered to families and youth free of cost. As an agency we have skilled staff and volunteers who collaborate to deliver impactful service to kids and their families.

  • Overview:
  • For over 50 years BBBSWR has been making a positive difference in the lives of our Region's youth by developing and implementing a wide range of mentoring programs. Currently, we offer three school based Programs (In-School Mentoring, Go Girls! and Game On!) and two community based Programs (Big Brother/Big Sisters, Big Bunch). In addition, we also offer a Camp called Summer Discovery for children who are English Language Learners.

Serving as role models, our mentors teach by example the importance of giving back, staying in school, and having respect for family, peers and community. Each time we pair a child with a mentor or introduce a group of students to an in-school program, we start something incredible – a life-changing relationship built on friendship, trust and empowerment.
