  • The purpose of this association is to act as a member agency to the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind, provide supportive services to persons who are visually impaired and whose income falls within state guidelines, conserve sight and prevent blindness, and to advocate for services and rights of persons who are visually impaired.

  • Programs and Services Provided
    Specialized Services – FREE services to clients
    • Transportation – provides transportation to medical appointments grocery shopping, personal shopping and to other social service agencies
    • Life Skills – is a weekly meeting in Blair County and a monthly meeting in Clearfield County to provide information on available resources in the community or topics of interest
    • Support Services - assist with grocery shopping, carrying groceries in to your home, reading your mail and helping to complete forms and other paperwork

    • Escorted Service – Escort services allow the SS Contractor staff to accompany the customer on doctor’s visits, or other necessary appointments, etc. to provide necessary guidance and assistance

    Primary audience – Blind and visually impaired

    How will they be served – free transportation with sighted guide/escort, lifeskills meetings, support services and social service programs

    Age – there is no age limit, currently most of our clients our elderly and poverty level according to state guidelines

    Where the programs are offered /geographical range of your organization – our services are provided in Blair and Clearfield Counties. With exceptions being made pending doctor’s referrals

    Prevention Services – FREE Services
    • Pre-school and adult vision screenings are provided to area preschools, daycares, schools, senior centers, senior housing and businesses to check for visual acuity
    • Preschool and adult education programs are provided to area preschools, daycares, schools, senior centers, senior housing and businesses to promote/educate on eye health and safety

    and Clearfield Counties.

  • History:
  • Blair/Clearfield Association for the Blind (BCAB) that was originally Blair County Association for the Blind has been providing services to the visually impaired in Blair County since 1926 and was incorporated in 1953. BCAB had operated a workshop to provide employment to disabled until its closing in 1985. From 1974 until 1998 BCAB ran a radio reading services for the blind and visually impaired. BCAB provided free preschool and adult vision screenings to preschools, daycares, senior centers, health fairs and other community events. At this time, we also began providing eye education and safety programs as well. In 2004, we expanded to include the blind and visually impaired of Clearfield County. In 2010, our name was changed to include Clearfield County. BCAB holds contracts with Unique Source to provide handicapped individuals work as Photo License Technicians and janitors in various state buildings throughout our community. BCAB also established its own janitorial service in 2011. In 2013, BCAB held our first annual Blindness Awareness – Fall Day Event geared toward children. In 2014, BCAB received a five year accreditation from National Accreditation Council (NAC).
