    The Association for the Advancement of Social Sciences in Guatemala is one of the most prestigious social research centres in Guatemala and Central America, highlighting their research-action work in indigenous rural areas, including valuable non-formal education components and vocational training (the Executive Director of AVANCSO was once the Director of the National Programme of Non-formal Education in SEGEPLAN).

    The TALE Association consists of high-level and renowned professionals and specialists in the fields of sustainable development, community empowerment, preventive health, ecology, ICT, renewable energies, and education, who have held positions of high responsibility in institutions such as: UNESCO (Science, Technology and Higher Education in Latin America); Secretariat of the Western Centre of the (National) University of San Carlos, USAC; Directorate of the Faculty of Engineering, USAC; Directorate of the Linguistics and Intercultural Institute, Rafael Landívar University; Direction of Educational Projects and Community Development of the Secretariat for Planning and Programming of the Presidency (SEGEPLAN); Ministry of Education; Adviser on Community Development Projects at SEGEPLAN, etc.

  • Over the past three years, CCSD managers have visited and made intensive research into rural community and women empowerment successful experiences in Mexico (CIDECI), Brazil (Paulo Freire Institute, Pindorama Permaculture Institute), India (Navdanya Biodiversity Conservation Farm, Tarun Bharat Sangh, Barefoot College), Bangladesh (BRAC), Australia (Permaculture Research Institute).
    There are several national and international organizations, including various United Nations agencies, associated with the Project, and supporting or actively involved in its implementation. Amongst them: the (National) University of San Carlos-USAC (CUNOC-Western Centre); University del Valle-UVG (Sustainable Tourism Department, Biology Department); Rafael Landivar University-URL (Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Economics); CIDECI (Indigenous Centre for Integral Training, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Mexico); ILO (International Labour Organization, Guatemala); UNESCO (United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture); Presidential Secretariat for Women (SEPREM); Department of Social Work/Under-Secretariat for Social Welfare (SOSEP).
