  • Mission:
  • We aim to spread awareness of the important care exotic animals need from day to day. Our hope is that by educating the schools and their students that will help aid in our efforts and additionally to make learning a unique and fun experience for the students. Along with our educational programs we also rescue sugar gliders that can no longer be cared for or that have been neglected. Our goal is to treat them medically and socially in order to be re-homed to a new forever home that is equipped with proper knowledge and essentials.

  • Overview:
  • I travel to local and surrounding schools with 7 of our 12 sugar gliders. The teachers are provided with print outs of information and art projects relating to the gliders. Once at the school, I show one or two sugar gliders to start the discussion. The interactive speech covers the history, science, anatomy, & care of sugar gliders. If the students are permitted they are able to pet and/or hold some of the gliders at the end of the presentation.

  • History:
  • I became a sugar glider owner 5 years ago. At that time it was much harder to find information on the gliders, so I started the first and only Arkansas Sugar Glider facebook page. The purpose of the page was to bring fellow Arkansans who owned these little marsupials together to learn and discuss. Over the years the page has expanded to a webpage and we are now a rescue, sanctuary, & educational non-profit. Our first rescues were a trio with two males and a female. The males were not neutered and the female had a joey. When the joey came out of pouch the mother rejected her, most likely due to her older age. I had the boys neutered to prevent further rejections and hand-raised the 8 gram joey for several months. That joey is still with us and in our colony of 7. Since then we have taken another 4 rescues with 2 joeys coming from those before being altered. There are no benefactors other than myself and my husband.
