  • Mission:
  • The mission of Angel Flight Southeast is to arrange free flights so children and adults can have access to the far-from-home doctors that can save their lives.

Our volunteer pilots donate the costs of all flights -- their aircraft, fuel, time, and expertise. There is never a charge for an Angel Flight Southeast mission.

  • Overview:
  • Angel Flight Southeast is a network of more than 650 volunteer pilots who donate their aircraft, fuel, flying skills and time to provide free air transportation to medical facilities for people who are financially distressed or otherwise unable to travel on public transportation.

Angel Flight Southeast (AFSE) also coordinates missions to fly organ transplant candidates, patients involved in clinical trials, chemotherapy or other recurring treatment, victims of abuse seeking relocation, families receiving help from Ronald McDonald Houses, Shriners Hospitals and many other charities, and disabled or sick children attending special summer camp programs. In addition, AFSE offers compassion flights including flying wounded veterans to counseling services and for many other humanitarian reasons.

AFSE's territory encompasses Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina.

Our greatest accomplishments are in the help we give to people in need: the family living in poverty whose child needs surgery for a rare debilitative condition . . . the small-town pensioner whose cancer requires multiple visits to a far-off treatment facility . . . the single parent of four who is scheduled for an organ transplant. Without the free transportation that Angel Flight Southeast provides, it's doubtful that any of them would have access to the medical attention they need.

Our programs are a lifeline for people like seven-year-old Aubrie A. from Clemont, Florida. Aubrie had liver disease and needed a transplant. At last, her family got the call: the organs were available at Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital -- but they would only be viable for four hours. Aubrie needed to get there immediately.

Fortunately, the family knew about AFSE and called us. Within the hour, they were airborne.

  • History:
  • Angel Flight Southeast was established in 1983 by Mary Webb, an aviator in central Florida. She single-handedly coordinated the first few years of flights by calling her friends from her kitchen table and flew many of the missions herself. Initial programs focused on Florida, with occasional services to adjoining states. Sadly, in 1994, Mary passed away and the organization hired its first executive director.

In the late nineties, AFSE began an ambitious expansion program to establish service to more passengers who lived in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina, and later added The Bahamas, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.

Today, Angel Flight Southeast has a volunteer network of 650 pilots across five Southeastern states. In 2014, they completed 1,153 flights.
