  • Citizens For A Better Grand Bay is committed to making the un-incorporated area of Grand Bay Alabama a better place to live. By developing and completing community projects and hosting public service programs not readily available to area residents CBGB has enhanced Grand Bay’s growth in a positive direction, providing a better way of life for the residents of the rural Southern community.

  • Overview:
  • Citizens for A Better Grand Bay, Inc. (CBGB) is a non-profit 501 (3) (c) public organization created to benefit the community of Grand Bay, a rural residential and farming community in South Alabama.
    CBGB’s main projects include, but are not limited to:
    • Managing the Grand Bay-St Elmo Senior and Community Center
    • Hosting the Senior Citizen’s meal, activity and transportation program and the Senior Home bound Meal delivery program (Title IV – Nutritional Programs)
    • Providing computer education and internet access for residents of the community.
    • Community outreach and education programs.
    * Family Food Box Program -distributing food for the under served and low income families.
    * Compassionate Care for Homeless and low income residents
    • Heritage Day Festival – A family day to learn about Grand Bay’s History
    • Country Christmas – Celebrating the Christmas Season in the community
    • The Grand Bay Library and Museum Project

    CBGB has a significant list of supporters, among which are residents, schools and businesses, international corporations, State Legislative Representatives and County Commissioners. Our organization has open membership to the public and is totally funded by donations, fundraisers and grants.

  • History:
  • The organization began in 1998 by local business owners and residents and was incorporated in 2000 to serve the Grand Bay Community more effectively as a non-profit group, run by volunteers. CBGB is funded by donations, fundraisers and grants.
    In 1998, CBGB sponsored local business open house and a parade to celebrate Country Christmas in December.
    In 2000, CBGB sponsored the SOS program, (Save Our Schools) collecting school supplies for area children and acquired traffic signals for major streets and welcome signs for the area. CBGB also sponsored The Angel Tree and Senior Tree Christmas Gift programs, and began the Heritage Day Festival.
    In 2005, CBGB opened the Grand Bay Senior & Community Center and has continually hosted the Senior Nutrition and Activity program funded by the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission and the Area Agency on Aging. The Community Center is used for private events and community programs and meetings.
    In 2010, CBGB launched the Grand Bay Library & Museum project, which includes the renovation of an historic building and the revitalization of the Grand Bay Historic District.
    In 2012, CBGB received a $30,000 technology grant from BP Oil for computers and computer education.
    In 2015, CBGB began the Compassionate Care Program, an outreach and step up program for the homeless, under served, low income families and individuals in crisis. Volunteers offer professional counselling and transportation to public services.
