General

  • Mission:
  • Anchor Point, Inc. is a 501c3 Public Charity and Maryland non-profit, tax-exempt corporation that encourages character building in the lives of youth and adults through education and mentoring initiatives, work force development and job skills training.

  • Overview:
  • The Core Values of Anchor Point include: Working, Learning, Serving and Adventure. We engage all people regardless of race, creed, or color. Learning to "Live Life Well" is our motto.

Through our job skills training program at the Anchor Point Family Thrift Store and as a partner agency with the Dorchester County Department of Social Services, the local Drug Court, Dorchester County Health Department, The Dorchester Faith Alliance and area churches, we provide work force development training. Of the 40+ volunteers that have enrolled in the last 2 years, we have seen over 50% of those staff-in-training go on to full time job placement in the community. Our program is unique in that we work with any individual who is willing to apply themselves to preparing for a job, no matter what their history has been or the challenges they face... and we get results! We assist with getting their ID Cards, Drivers Licenses, GEDs, Birth Certificates, etc., help many of them need. Several area business owners work with our staff-in-training to provide business mentoring and employment coaching.

  • History:
  • Started in 2008 to provide recreational retreats for families engaged in drug and alcohol recovery, we have become a collaborative partner in the Cambridge, MD community assisting churches, local organizations, and Government Agencies through engaging at-risk youth and adults in work force development and job skills training.

As a MD Food Bank agency, in the last 12 months, we have distributed over 100,000 lbs of food feeding over 6700 food insecure individuals of our community.

Our Culinary Arts Initiative is engaging local youth at our Outdoor Kitchen Building and our neighborhood garden and working with men and women in recovery support programs of DriDock Recovery Center's Kitchen to provide ServSafe basic training in the food industry.

Of all the activities of Anchor Point, Inc. we especially love the adventure aspect. Whether it is taking our staff-in-training out on fishing trips, taking youth out on sailboats, working with community day camps, helping local youth groups raise funds and serve the community at the same time, engaging local law enforcement officers and at-risk youth in mentoring projects, our staff-in-training get an opportunity to be involved in an organization that truly gives back to the community on many levels.
