  • Located throughout the United States, Community Action Agencies are public and private non-profit organizations originally established under the Economic Opportunity Act 1964 to fight America's “War on Poverty.” Founded in 1966 during this “Great Society” era, Community Action Agency of South Central Michigan (Community Action) serves four counties--Barry, Branch, Calhoun, and St. Joseph--with five offices, fifteen senior dining centers, and seventeen Head Start/Early Head Start locations. Community Action is headquartered at 175 Main St. in Battle Creek, a former Grand Trunk railroad station that was purchased and renovated in 1988 with a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
