General

  • Mission:
  • The Center's mission is to provide a public gathering place that strengthens community and fosters creativity through the presentation of performing arts.

  • Overview:
  • Since opening in 2009, the nonprofit AT&T Performing Arts Center has been a presenter of high-quality performing arts with a mission to provide a public gathering place that strengthens community and fosters creativity. The Center is made up of four premier and innovative performance spaces: Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House, Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, Annette Strauss Square and Elaine D. and Charles A. Sammons Park. The Center's Board of Directors and its President and CEO, Douglas T. Curtis, guide a staff of development, production, marketing and finance professionals working to strengthen and support the mission of the Center and to enhance the impact of the Dallas Arts District.

The Center presents an ever-growing collection of series, including Center Presents Broadway Series, Off Broadway On Flora, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, #hearhere, Broadway en Español and one-off concerts and shows. Our wide variety of programing, both free and ticketed, targets diverse audiences throughout Dallas. The Center is leading the charge towards a new level of performing arts and community enrichment possibilities in the Arts District. Our staff of performing arts professionals has pioneered programs and shows that include works never before seen in the region. For example, Off Broadway On Flora brings edgy works of theatre rarely performed outside of New York City. Open Stages is our unique education program which provides tickets, transportation and learning opportunities for more than 3,000 students from Title I schools who come to experience Broadway and dance presentations at the Center. Additionally, the Center is a central home to five professional and diverse Dallas-area performing arts organizations, including The Dallas Opera, Dallas Theater Center, Anita Martinez Ballet Folklorico, Dallas Black Dance Theatre, and Texas Ballet Theater.

As the largest performing arts center in North Texas, the Center has a unique impact on Dallas: the ability to orchestrate large events such as Aurora, drawing 50,000 people to the Arts District, the ability to draw premier touring artists such as the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and an unparalleled ability to provide resources, such as low rent and distinguished venues, to our fellow nonprofit arts groups and our wider community.
