  • Mission:
  • The mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach is to empower all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as healthy, caring and responsible adults.

  • Overview:
  • The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach offers quality out-of-school care offering daily access to a broad range of programs in five core program areas (Character and Leadership Development; Education and Career Development; Health and Life Skills; The Arts; and Sports, Fitness and Recreation). All of the programs are designed to drive positive outcomes for youth and to reinforce necessary life skills. More than 2000 young people, the majority of them at-risk and in need, are currently taking advantage of the programs, activities and services provided by the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach. Our vision is to provide a world-class club experience that assures the future success of all members: each should be on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrate good character and citizenship, and live a healthy lifestyle.
The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach is located in a geographical area that is relatively isolated by canyons and lack of thoroughfares, an area that offers few alternatives to youth that might otherwise be at-risk during their out-of-school hours. With limited resources or alternatives, low-income and working parent families rely on the Club, its caring staff, and its enriching programs, which include the following: Teen Center – offering age appropriate recreational and educational activities; Athletic Department – offering league basketball and non-league sports such as tennis, golf, soccer, and numerous active games; Education and Technology Center – offering homework and tutoring assistance, environmental and science activities, including STEM workshops, and computers for learning technology skills; Art Department – offering visual, fine, digital, and performing arts; Activity Center – where children play a variety of games such as billiards, air hockey, foosball, and board games; The Club Preschool – providing 3 and 4-year old children exclusively from low-income families with a free of charge, quality preschool education aimed at school readiness (83% of the students are from the Latino culture, and English is their second language); Kinder Buddy – an after school program for kindergarten children providing age appropriate activities and homework assistance (offers preschool graduates a smooth transition into the public school system); Family Support Services – offering families educational, health and mental health workshops that provide information on how to strengthen the family. For the preschool parents and the community, an English as a Second Language class is offered four days a week.

As a community-based organization, our Club is uniquely positioned to positively affect the lives of the youth we serve. At the 2015 Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce “Spirit of Laguna” awards night, the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach was awarded the 2015 Non-profit of the Year award. We are committed to never turning away a child due to financial circumstances. In the face of many cutbacks in public spending for critically needed youth programs, and with no other affordable options available in our service area, many families living paycheck to paycheck rely on our Club to care for their children during the work day.

We are committed to engaging our staff, parents, and community leaders and organizations in our mission to help children in our community reach their full potential. With the three branches of our club strategically located throughout Laguna Beach, we are now situated to reach more children and families than ever before. We want to increase our membership at the Lang Branch. We are focused on creating a thriving high school teen center at The Spot which is located two days a week at Laguna Beach High School and three days a week at the Canyon Branch. We are committed to having a center where high school teens, under the guidance of club staff, take the lead in creating a club that meets their academic and social needs. We are also dedicated to enhancing our Teen Center, for middle school teens, located at the Canyon Branch, where we are introducing programs such as College Bound and Career Launch that will have an impact on its members’ future career choices. After successfully serving children for over 64 years, we find that youth respond best to familiar and caring adults when they interact on a regular basis. Club alumni now serving on our Board of Directors directly credit their relationship with a caring staff member for putting their lives on the right path to their current success. We offer nationally recognized and award winning programs to every member in conjunction with a formal mentorship program, provided to those members who need it most.

  • History:
  • The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach is chartered member of the Boys & Girls Club of America, a nationwide organization comprised of smaller, autonomous, community-based organizations that work to help young people of all backgrounds develop the qualities they need to become responsible citizens and leaders. The Club offers daily access to a broad range of programs in five core program areas (Character and Leadership Development; Education and Career Development; Health and Life Skills; The Arts; and Sports, Fitness and Recreation. All of the programs are designed to drive positive outcomes for youth and reinforce necessary life skills.

The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach has been serving the children and families of our community for 64 years. Its history began in 1952 when community leaders determined that local youth needed a safe and supervised place to spend their free time. In 1967 our current location was acquired to accommodate the growing number of members. (Club membership increased from 250 in the late 1970’s to over 2,000 in 2013.) In 1997 we began our transportation service from Aliso Viejo schools to our Canyon Branch. With the support of the City of Aliso Viejo, we currently pick up children from six schools in Aliso Viejo and bring them to the Club to participate in our quality programs and activities. To better serve the growing attendance, we completely renovated our Clubhouse in 2004 into a 25,000 square foot facility. In 2005 we acquired The Laguna Club for Kids, situated in Bluebird Park. In 2014 the City of Laguna Beach offered the Club designated space at Lang Park to open another branch for after-school care. During the school year 2014-2015 we began serving families living in the South Laguna Beach area. Thus our three branches currently provide easy access to quality out-of-school care for children in Laguna Beach and Aliso Viejo. The Boys & Girls Club is open to all children ages 3-18 regardless of race, creed or nationality, with an emphasis on serving children from disadvantaged circumstances. Our Club serves the following ethnic groups: Caucasian – 57%, Latino/Latina/Hispanic – 27%, Asian/Pacific Islander- 4%, Multi-racial -9%, African American/Black – 3%. In 2015 the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach was named the Non-Profit of the Year by the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce.
