General

  • Mission:
  • CASA for Children, Inc. provides high quality child advocacy to abused and neglected children through trained community volunteers. Our volunteers bring urgency to the needs of children in foster care and promote safety and permanency in their juvenile court cases. Our program devotes 100% of its focus to this mission. We adhere to national and state standards to implement the very best practices for child abuse response within the court system and within the community. Since our humble beginnings 15 years ago, we have served over 1,300 innocent victims of abuse through 413 trained community volunteers.

  • History:
  • Our CASA program originally began as a program of the Juvenile Court in the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit- which encompassed all of Cherokee and Forsyth Counties- in June of 1993. After 6-8 months, the Blue Ridge Juvenile Court realized it would be unable to manage the rapid growth of the program and the Cherokee Child Advocacy Council would become the home for the program for the next seven years. During this time, the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit split along the county line into two separate Circuits and we continued to serve both. Eventually, the increasing demand for CASA services and growth of the volunteer capacity required our program to separate from the Child Advocacy Council and become an independent agency. In 2001 we filed for incorporation and 501 (C) (3) status, under the name CASA For Children, Inc. and, soon after, restructured the program into two programs that coincide with their respective Judicial Circuits. Today, CASA for Children serves abused and neglected children in Cherokee County exclusively.
