General

  • Mission:
  • To develop healthy youth, healthy families, and healthy neighborhoods for a safe Santa Barbara community.

  • History:
  • In August 2007, with experts and in-depth research, a group of professionals began planning the Collaborative Communities Foundation (CCF) to address community issues such as youth violence, dysfunctional families, and assisting neighborhoods with opportunities and resources to address the socioeconomic conditions that affect a safe and healthy environment. CCF received its tax exempt status effective January 10, 2008. Next, in March 2008 CCF facilitated a first-ever gang between the Eastside, Westside and Goleta gangs. Then, in April 2008, CCF conducted a community needs assessment to address youth violence, in which over 400 youth participated. Additionally, on May 29, 2008, we hosted a Community Forum to address violence. Over 200 Santa Barbara community members participated in the event, of which 65 were at-risk youth. Four key initiatives were identified: Safe Neighborhoods, Young Women Empowerment, Parent Education, and Jobs & Skills. CCF then coordinated four Community Dialogues attended by 100 community participants to develop strategies in these areas. We have provided prevention educational sessions to over 150 violent youth and gangs in during-school and after-school programs. We have also worked in neighborhoods conducting community street clean-ups and minor repairing of homes. Most recently, we rallied and supported the Milpas neighborhood to hold its 57th Annual Holiday Parade. This year’s event was not planned, reflecting the unraveling social fabric due to in increasing gang activity in the area.
