  • History:
  • The agency was founded in 1977 in Oxford County by two pediatricians. The agency initially provided child development programs, parenting education, and family-focused social service programs. An early program, the Parent Place, still offers parenting support to parents under the age of 24 with children between the ages of 0-5. Another early program was the Developmental Therapy Preschool serving children with developmental delays. By the 1990’s agency served Oxford, Androscoggin and Southern Franklin Counties from two site one in Oxford County and one in Androscoggin County. Also in 1990 a Community Based Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring Program was started followed by the establishment of a site based mentoring program. By 2003 this was the largest Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring Program in Maine serving over 600 matches.

With this move came expansion of the Occupational Therapy Program and added Speech and Physical Therapy for children .

In 2008 the Child Health Center opened a pilot program for chidlren with severe disabilities which now serves seven chdlren and their families. In 2009 this program will expand to serve twenty children with oneo on one aides and 2 certified teachers.
