General

  • Mission:
  • To provide youth of our community with an educational and recreational experience that promotes social responsibility, encourages academic success and supports development of a healthy self-esteem.

  • History:
  • Camp Blodgett was established in 1921 with a gift of land on the shores of Lake Michigan from the John W. Blodgett family and Helen Blodgett Irwin, and its initial purpose was to provide an out-of-doors camping experience to inner city orphans. Over 87 years later, Camp Blodgett's purpose has evolved from simply fresh air and fun to a unique, educationally based esteem building experience for children who might otherwise have no extracurricular activities.

Camp Blodgett strives to fulfill its mission by providing quality year-round programs for children that emphasize academic achievement, self-esteem and social responsibility:

Residential Summer Camp - 6-8 days of exciting and educational enrichment activities for over 500 8-13 year olds - 97% pay $35 or less.
Camp Blodgett Club - after-school programs for over 200 kids that meet twice per week in eight locations and focus on literacy, teamwork and building motivating relationships - no cost to participants.
Leadership Conferences - weekend retreats where teens develop leadership and communication skills - $5 or less per retreat.
Young Leaders - council of up to 20 older teens that undertakes service projects, works on college prep and seeks advanced leadership opportunities within the community - no cost to participants.

We feel it is essential to maintain positive, nurturing relationships with as many deserving kids as possible. That is why we have expanded our programs to reach children all year round, and that is why Camp Blodgett will continue to grow and improve these programs.
