  • Mission:
  • The Bay Area Council Foundation (BACF) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded to fund, manage and implement initiatives that impact the entire nine-county Bay Area region and State of California. The mission of BACF is to support the Bay Area Council and invest philanthropic resources toward building stronger, more vibrant communities, a healthy economy, and a more innovative, globally competitive and sustainable Bay Area region through efforts in education, healthcare, transportation, land use, climate change, and community-related work to improve underserved areas.

  • History:
  • Although a relatively new organization, the Foundation draws on the know-how of its 501(c)(4) sister organization, the Bay Area Council (the Council), as a business-sponsored, public-policy advocacy organization for the nine-county Bay Area. With over 60 years of experience and a successful track record of mobilizing business leadership on the key issues that affect quality of life and economic vitality here, the Council is widely respected by elected officials, policy makers and other civic leaders as the regional voice of business. Founded in 1945 as a way for the Bay Area’s business community and like-minded individuals around the state to concentrate and coordinate their efforts, the Bay Area Council today represents over 275 of the largest employers in the region among its membership, with most offering their CEO or top executive as a leader. This backdrop provides a strong framework and resource base from which BACF can ably address the interdependent forces that govern the region and the statewide issues in which the Foundation engages across equity, environment, and economic areas of concern.
