  • Mission:
  • The mission of Bay Cove Human Services is improving the quality of the lives of individuals and their families who face the challenges of developmental disabilities, aging, mental illness, and drug and alcohol addiction. We will accomplish this mission by providing effective and compassionate services, and through advocacy and leadership.

  • History:
  • Parts of Bay Cove Human Services (originally programs of Center House) have been serving some of Boston’s most vulnerable for 50 years, people who face tremendous challenges and lack access to other supports. Founded in 1974, Bay Cove seeks to offer our clients opportunities to live full, rich lives. Bay Cove is proud of our broad range of culturally and linguistically responsive programs, and our many partnerships, both with the communities we serve and with other nonprofits or state agencies.

Primarily due to our dedicated and highly trained staff, many of whom have been with us for years, Bay Cove has earned an outstanding reputation for effective, integrated services that respond on an individualized basis to previously unmet or emerging needs. Our programs consistently receive high ratings from national and local accreditation organizations. Again and again, Bay Cove has created or taken on new programs that broaden our continuum of compassionate care, often at the request of the state or other entities, but always with a focus on the needs of each individual or family to be served.

Even as Bay Cove has expanded services to meet such emerging needs, we have remained financially strong. Bay Cove now provides caring and highly successful residential, day, out-patient, and educational services to 14,000 people of all ages each year. Bay Cove is structured in six treatment divisions (Child and Family Services, Developmental Disability Services, Mental Health Services, Kit Clark Senior Services, Substance Abuse Division, and Bay Cove Academy), each led by staff with extraordinary dedication and long-time experience in that field. About 7,500 people participate in Bay Cove programs each day, at over 130 sites in metro Boston and southeastern Massachusetts.
