  • Mission:
  • ASPIRA of Connecticut’s mission is to foster the education and positive leadership development of Latino and other minority youth. ASPIRA addresses the poor academic performance of Latino and other minority students to encourage graduation from high school and the pursuit of post-secondary education. ASPIRA accomplishes this through community-based programs that focus on academic achievement, cultural awareness, college preparation and leadership development.

  • History:
  • Designed to bring about community change, ASPIRA of Connecticut was founded in Hartford, Connecticut in 1989 by a group of Latino community leaders. This group believed that the Washington D.C. based ASPIRA Association’s programs on economic enhancement, leadership development and advocacy were needed locally to address the exceedingly high dropout rate and low mastery test scores that Latino and other minority youth were exhibiting in Connecticut’s public education systems.
