General

  • Mission:
  • Assistance League of the Foothill Communities is a nonprofit philanthropic organization dedicated to the needs of children.

Children in need are sent to us for clothing and/or dental care by school nurses and administrators in 7 school districts and 80 schools in the West End of San Bernardino County, CA.

  • History:
  • Assistance League of the Foothill Communities was established in 1935 as the Upland Junior Welfare League. At that time we provided free dental care for needy children.

In 1953 we were chartered by Assistance League as Assistance League of Upland. Over the next 20 years our projects and size increased substantially. We acquired a building to house our activities, and established additional philanthropic programs. During these 20 years we formed an alliance with San Antonio Community Hospital where we conducted our dental clinic for needy children.

In 1985, with the generous help of San Antonio Community Hospital, we moved our dental clinic into a wing of our chapter house where it remains today. We are very proud of our state-of-the-art clinic which is staffed entirely by volunteer dentists and hygienists. We only employ one part time dental assistant. Our dental clinic just celebrated it's 75th anniversary.

In 1996 we bought the property adjoining our chapter house and moved our thrift shop, Operation School Bell program and office to this location.

In 2003 we changed our name to Assistance League of the Foothill communities to reflect our growing demographics.

At the present time our programs include Operation School Bell, SACH Dental Center, Bears for children in traumatic situations & duffle bags for children going in to, or leaving foster care.
