San Francisco General Hospital Foundation is dedicated to promoting excellence in research, education and care for all at San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (The General).
In 1991, a dedicated group of volunteers joined efforts to raise funds and donate clothing, food and other basic items to help meet the needs of the many vulnerable residents who sought care at The General. This work was the catalyst for the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation. Incorporated in 1994, the Foundation’s initial mission focused on improving the care and comfort of patients at The General. This mission continues today and has been expanded in recognition of the world-renowned research and training excellence that takes place on The General’s campus, as well as the hospital’s role as the only Level 1 Trauma Center serving San Francisco and northern San Mateo County. Since its establishment, the Foundation has raised over $92 million in support for The General. As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, the Foundation remains as dedicated as ever to matching the needs at The General with donor interests to ensure our City’s public hospital remains one of the finest in the nation.
