To create an equitable and vibrant community for all Southern Arizonans by connecting donors to the causes they care about, now and forever.
The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona connects donors to the causes they care about, serving as a vital link between philanthropy and the community’s needs.
Four decades and two name changes later, the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona continues to connect donors who want to make a difference to the causes they care about. Hundreds of individuals, families, and businesses have established funds at the Community Foundation, creating a group of funds that have granted more than $200 million since 1980.
Today, we continue to improve the quality of life in the region with the support of community-minded people like you. Together, we address a broad spectrum of issues and apply our collective funds to life-changing philanthropic efforts.

The Igor Gorin Memorial Award
Since 1993, the Igor Gorin Memorial Award has awarded $382,000 to help 49 individual young vocalists at the start of their operatic career. Igor never forgot his early struggles to survive and launch his career; consequently, his family established this award at the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona as a fitting way to honor his memory in providing opportunities for aspiring vocalists.
For gifted vocalists poised to begin successful careers, flying from city to city to audition, and hiring accompanists and coaches is expensive. The award money is unrestricted and may be used for coaching, travel, clothing, living costs, and audition expenses. The 2025 award is up to $12,000 at the discretion of the adjudicating committee.

The Local News initiative for Southern Arizona was inspired by a group of local civic and community leaders concerned about the decline in local journalism and information for and about our community. Newspapers have long provided the bulk of original reporting to inform communities about issues of local concern and to help hold local government and institutions accountable. But the local news media landscape across the country has dramatically changed in the last two decades, with the proliferation of digital content and collapse of the traditional advertising business model. These changes have led to the local news crisis across the country that has prompted local civic leaders, place-based funders, and national philanthropy to address this important concern.
About Local News Initiative Grants
Local News Initiative grants are designed to help strengthen our community by supporting robust local journalism and news and information providers in Southern Arizona. With more journalists producing original reporting and community news and information, the people in Tucson, Pima County, and across Southern Arizona can become better informed and rely on local journalism to hold the government and other institutions to account.
The Local News Initiative’s goals are to:
• Promote informed and engaged communities in Southern Arizona
• Address critical gaps in local public-affairs reporting and community news and civic information in Southern Arizona
• Ensure that historically marginalized and underrepresented communities are served with robust reporting and inclusive, community news and information. Increase the number and/or coverage provided by local journalists and local news providers delivering independent, nonpartisan reporting on issues of local concern.

An affiliate of the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, the Santa Cruz Community Foundation (SCCF) is a permanent charitable resource that was founded in 2001 by area residents to empower their community to invest in itself. SCCF assists Santa Cruz County to prepare for the future by strengthening the community through the awarding of scholarships and grants to nonprofit organizations.
As SCCF’s umbrella organization, the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona (CFSA) provides expertise and skilled guidance to help donors give back in ways that are aligned with their charitable and financial goals. The Board of Trustees oversees the Foundation’s growing community endowment – which includes assets earmarked for Santa Cruz County – and ensures that donors’ intentions are honored now and forever.
Requests up to $5,000 will be considered. Only one application will be accepted per organization.
